I had a dream that Konstantin tried to kill Villanelle but Eve somehow saved her. In the next scene it showed Villanelle waking up in the hospital with Eve by her side and she smooched her on the cheek. Then the episode was over…my mind.

Finally: first look at third season of ‘Killing Eve’ revealed, premiere date set

This spring, it will be time to kill and be killed… once again.

Beware: spoilers ahead!

If there’s one TV show that made it big in the past couple of years, it’s BBC America’s Killing Eve. The show launched Sandra Oh’s post-Grey’s Anatomy acting career with her playing Eve Polastri, a British intelligence investigator who gets on the trail of female assassin Villanelle, played by The White Princess and Doctor Foster alum Jodie Comer. Based on a thriller by Luke Jennings and with the first series written by Fleabag phenomenon Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Killing Eve has been one of TV’s biggest hits, with Entertainment Weekly calling it ‘’thrilling, chilling and blood-spilling’’ and viewers praising it as addictive, psychologically intense and harrowingly vile and captivating, all thanks to the two lead actresses’ Emmy-winning, very striking performances and their cat-and-mouse (where it’s never certain who’s the cat and who the mouse), love-to-hate and love-hate-love-hate, chemistry, as well as to the fact that it’s breaking stereotypes and gender patterns: a female killer, a female cop, two females who are, both in their own way, killers. It’s high on the watchlist of celebrities like Taylor Swift and Ellen DeGeneres and there’s been plenty of scenes that kept people talking - and not sleeping - for days. It’s a massive hit, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

image

Early this year, it was revealed that the show was already renewed for a fourth season, even before anyone knew anything about the third series. It’s been long quiet around it, with showrunners - the lead writer changes every season - probably trying their best to keep under wraps what they’ve cooked up for as long as possible. But the wait is now over: Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look at the show’s return and also set a release date to look forward to.

Season three of Killing Eve is highly anticipated for that rollercoaster of a cliffhanger in the finale of the sophomore season: after basically tricking Eve into becoming a killer herself, Villanelle asks what she thinks is her newfound partner in murder crime to run away with her, to give in to what they clearly have been feeling for each other all along and start over together - as two dangerous women with the world at their feet. But Eve, realizing that Villanelle played her and has no clue what love means, refuses - and that makes Comer’s character hella mad. So mad that she shoots Eve in the back and walks away.

image

But of course, if that would be the end for Eve, there would be no third season - since Eve is the titular character, after all, even though it’s Villanelle who constantly steals the show whenever she appears on screen. So yes, Eve lives… but the question is, when will Villanelle find out? And, just as importantly: how will Eve carry on now that she’s found out that, in her core, she’s not that different from Villanelle? One move she has apparantly decided to make is quit her job as a secret agent and take up a position as… butcher? How interesting. However, this new career is apparantly not stopping her from still staying in touch with MI6 mentor Carolyn, once again portrayed by iconic actress Fiona Shaw. Could they be discussing Villanelle? Will we find out what Carolyn’s place in all of this is, once and for all? And also, where are Eve and her husband Niko in their relationship? He has to deal with the fact that his (ex?)wife’s lover/enemy killed his girlfriend, and how do you come back from that? And is that the same village-y place they’re walking?

Meanwhile, according to EW, Villanelle will also be doing some self-searching: her theme for this season just might be all about freedom and breaking free from working for other people. Pretty understandable when you think about it: working for people like Konstantin has almost gotten her killed quite a few times now, and let’s be honest here: a woman as fierce, as dangerous and as powerful as Villanelle deserves to walk her own path… no? But as producer Sally Woodward Gentle teases, she’s gonna have to prove herself to earn the independence she so desires. Her journey leads her to European metropolis Barcelona, and looking from the photo below, her wardrobe is going to be just as glam as that icnoic pink Paris dress and that killer - literally - red jumpsuit. And that clown outfit… I don’t think there’s ever been such a fashionable and beautiful clown in, well, the history of clowns. Could this be a fun, thrilling new murder set-up with a cool new costume, like the infamous pig one when she went on a killing spree in Amsterdam? Standing next to her, by the way, is Romanian guest star Stefan Iancu, who is playing a character named Felix according to EW. Interesting.

And look… Konstantin is also back. That man has nine lives.

Season three of Killing Eve will premiere April 26th on BBC America. Let’s hope it won’t be long before it hits international streaming services. And let’s hope that before that, we’ll get more sneak peeks… until then, let’s enjoy this very first, very mysterious teaser video.
